Welcome to February, typically one of the hottest months in Australia. But over in the birthplace of Netflix, many Americans are enduring blizzard-like conditions so naturally the king of content streaming delivers big on new titles for their snowed-in subscribers. With a concentrated effort at featuring Netflix Originals, you’ll find a bunch of newly developed titles to enjoy along with some movie favourites. Let’s drill down to the gems.

Eagerly anticipated new series, Altered Carbon, comes to Netflix this month and it certainly looks like a trip. As described on IMDb, “Altered Carbon is set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies.” Okay, so….what??? If your brain is having trouble deciphering that particular combination of words, you are not alone. But if you love a good futuristic sci-fi thriller, then Altered Carbon is a must-see.

Much beloved and now retired late night TV host, David Letterman, needs no introduction. And now he’s back with the Netflix Original Series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman. A monthly talk show, Letterman conducts in-depth interviews with intriguing global figures and this month, it’s American actor, George Clooney. Sporting an epic Santa Claus beard and a degree of self-reflection not suited to the late night comedy format, this is Letterman as you’ve never seen him before.

Fans of anime take note. Two Netflix Originals Fate/Apocrypha (Part 2) and Fullmetal Alchemist come to Netflix on February 9 and February 19 respectively. And for fans of stand-up comedy, Malaysian stand-up comedian Kavin Jay’s Netflix Special Everybody Calm Down! streams from February 2 and Marlon Wayan’s Woke-ish streams from February 27.

Foodies will enjoy watching American celebrity chef David Chang eat his way around the world in Ugly Delicious. Chang founded the Momofuku group, with restaurants from New York City to Sydney, Australia and in this 8-part series, he travels across the globe sampling foods from different cultures. Streams from February 23.

Also food-related is documentary 42 grams. This is the unlikely story of chef Jake Bickelhaupt who, along with his wife, ran an “underground” – and ultimately illegal – supper club out of his home which garnered a cult following with Chicago foodies. His meteoric rise culminated in the opening of new restaurant, 42 Grams, which was awarded two Michelin stars in its first year. The documentary follows Bickelhaupt’s incredible rise, his fiery temper and the fallout this kind of success can leave in its wake.

Meanwhile, in the world of movies, there are some absolute classics to enjoy this month. Renowned American director Martin Scorsese’s 1990 tale of mob life, Goodfellas, though critically acclaimed, is not for the faint-hearted. With a heavy-hitting cast including Robert De Niro (Joy), Ray Liotta (The Place Beyond The Pines) and Joe Pesci (The Good Shepherd), this may be the story of a small time gangster but the menace and brutality depicted is not easily forgotten. Pesci’s performance earned him an Oscar.

Of course, if you prefer not to cower during a movie, then you might be pleased to know that every title from the American Pie franchise lands at Netflix this month. Prepare to go super lowbrow though because having ‘relations’ with baked goods is just the beginning of the cringe-worthy fun!

Read on for the complete list of new titles on Netflix this month.
